"All of the cub scouts in Yuma were invited to work on their Aquatics activity badge and swimming belt loop at Kennedy Pool. Family and friends were also invited. There were probably 150 people there. When we got there, we were able to swim and play for a while until everyone arrived. At the entrance, they gave the cub scouts wrist bands for their group. The Webelos had blue wristbands. There were so many Webelos that they divided them into groups."
"First, we talked about what we would do if our friend was drowning. Then we talked about things we could do if WE were drowning and practiced. In the next area, we used flotation devices and we had to swim past 3 buoys and back. After that, we took them off, did a surface dive, and swam to about the middle of the pool, then treaded water for 30 seconds. In the next area, we swam all the way across the pool using the breast stroke then back using the backstroke."
"Then we met at the baby-pool where they asked us about the 'buddy system' and we played Marco Polo. Next, we went back to the big pool and had free swim time until the hot dogs were ready. They called up one group at a time. Then we ate and went home. I thought it was fun. I think it is important to know how to swim. I am very glad that I know how."
